The start of the Palo Alto City Library’s 2018 Summer Reading Program is just around the corner, with a family kick-off celebration scheduled for Sunday, May 20, at the Mitchell Park Community Center. Our theme this year is “re:Make Your Community”, which was inspired by conversations the Library has facilitated between members of the Palo Alto community. The all-ages Summer Reading Program is one of the Library’s most popular annual events, and we hope you will join in the fun this summer!
The Summer Reading Program will explore ways we can engage with our neighbors and cultivate an engaged, inclusive, and welcoming community. We are excited to bring back our very popular BINGO activity card, where participants are encouraged to get out and explore Palo Alto, earning badges for each activity they complete. Our prizes this year will include tote bags featuring custom artwork designed by local illustrator, Michael Slack, as well as a Book Bucks coupon and a free paperback book from the Friends of the Palo Alto Library.
Along with the Summer Reading Program, the Library will be hosting a “re:Maker Fair” on Saturday, June 23 to highlight sustainable technology and green practices. This free event for all ages will bring together local organizations, artists, and businesses for an afternoon of interactive activities, presentations, and workshops on sustainable home living. The fair will be held at the Mitchell Park Library and Community Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Additional special summer events will include a Neighborhood Block Party at the College Terrace Library on July 21, and a Summer Reading Program Prize Pick-Up Party at the Rinconada Library on August 4.
The Summer Reading Program is sponsored by Friends of the Palo Alto Library, Ada's Cafe, Rick's Ice Cream, and Michael Slack, Illustrator. For more information, please visit https://library.cityofpaloalto.org/news/remake-your-community-summer-reading-program-2018/
