Palo Alto, CA – The Palo Alto City Library (PACL) invites customers to explore their new online library catalog. PACL is implementing the new catalog based on customer requests for tools to organize, share, and socialize around their love of books, media, ideas, and knowledge. The new catalog was soft launched last November, with the final transition to the new catalog set for January 23, 2018.
Customers are encouraged to transfer their accounts online and begin using the new features. During the transfer process, customers can opt to activate their reading history and import lists from the old catalog. There is even an opportunity to win gift card prizes from Amazon, Books, Inc., Crepevine and Hobee’s for participation, now through February 14, 2018.
The new catalog, purchased from BiblioCommons, now allows PACL users to create a unique username, opening a portal to a social network of library users throughout the Bay Area, other parts of the country, and the world. Users can rate, review, and comment on items in the catalog, share reviews or reading lists with others, save custom searches, and follow the recommendations of librarians and other customers. Programs, events, and digital media are also available from within the catalog.
The Library welcomes user feedback on the new catalog. Customers can use the Share Your Thoughts feedback form on the bottom of any page within the new catalog.
The Palo Alto Library Advisory Commission encouraged development of this type of catalog as early as 2011, when library staff began work on an eLibrary. “The new catalog is the result of community input over several years. We look forward to continuing this work with the community to enhance the library experience over the years to come,” said Monique le Conge Ziesenhenne, Library Director.
