Palo Alto Volunteers and US Health and Human Services Team to be Honored for Outstanding Emergency Services

Palo Alto, CA - The Palo Alto Office of Emergency Services (OES) will host its seventh annual Community Partnership Awards ceremony, Keynote and Reception on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018 in the Palo Alto City Council Chambers. Newly elected Mayor Liz Kniss will kick off the event which begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend the event that runs till 9 p.m. There will be a free gift for the first 100 attendees.

Three local volunteers and a Bay Area Disaster Medical Assistance Team will be recognized for their work to keep the community safer and better prepared for emergencies. The award recipients are:

  • Susanne Jul, Creative Crisis Leadership
  • Ce Ci Kettendorf, Block-Preparedness Coordinator (BPC)
  • John Mori, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
  • US Health and Human Services, San Francisco Bay Area Disaster Medical Assistance Team, CA-6

An informative and timely keynote panel “Calamities Happen: What You Need to Know” will follow the awards ceremony. The featured speakers will be Tom Brocher, Head of the USGS Earthquake Hazards Division; Brandon Bond, Administrative Director, Office of Emergency Management, Stanford HealthCare; and Jeffrey Norris, OES, San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Palo Alto Police Chief, Robert Jonsen, and Palo Alto Fire Chief, Eric Nickel, will close the ceremony. Director of Emergency Services, Ken Dueker, will preside over the event.

About the Palo Alto Emergency Services Volunteers (ESV) Program

The City of Palo Alto has partnered with the community to form the Emergency Services Volunteer (ESV) program as a coordinating structure for the Block Preparedness Coordinator (BPC), Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Amateur Radio (ham radio), Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and the Community Logistics Team.
