Naked Man in Bushes Exposes Himself to Woman on Hiking Trail
Contact : Ryan Brennan, Agent, Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA – Police are asking for the public's help with identifying a man who exposed himself to a woman hiking with her toddler on a trail at the Palo Alto Baylands.

On Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at about 8:44 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a woman reporting an indecent exposure that had occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on a hiking trail at the Palo Alto Baylands at 2775 Embarcadero Road.

The victim, a woman in her thirties, said she had been walking with her toddler on the trail that runs east to west along the northern boundary of the Palo Alto Airport and the Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course.  As she passed some bushes alongside the trail, she heard someone clear their throat.  She then saw a naked man in the bushes, about 20 to 30 feet away from her.  He was masturbating and made eye contact with her.  He did not say anything or approach her.  The victim and her toddler immediately walked away.

The victim approached two joggers and asked them if they would escort her back through the area where the suspect had been.  They agreed.  When they reached the pedestrian and bicycle bridge to East Palo Alto, the victim saw the suspect, now clothed, standing near the bridge and smoking a cigarette.  So as to avoid any possible confrontation between the suspect and the joggers, she did not interact with the suspect at all and only wanted to get her toddler safely home.  She later called police to report the incident.

The victim described the suspect as a white male in his mid-twenties, around six feet tall, with a thin build.  He had dirty blonde hair that was tied in a ponytail near the top of his head in a manner the victim described as a "man bun."  He was unshaven and wore eyeglasses.  He was wearing a black zip-up sweater and dark-colored shorts, and had tattoos on his arms and legs.  The victim met with a police artist, who produced the attached sketch of the suspect.

On January 22, 2017, there was another indecent exposure that occurred near the intersection of Embarcadero Road and Embarcadero Way, near the vehicle entrance to the Palo Alto Baylands.  That case remains unsolved.  The suspect description is different from this case, and detectives do not believe the two cases are connected.  For details on that January case, click here.
