Police Investigate Fatal Collision

Palo Alto, CA A vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian this morning on Embarcadero Road. 

On Saturday, July 23, 2016, at about 7:30 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a report that a vehicle had just struck a pedestrian on the 800 block of Embarcadero Road.  Officers and personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department responded immediately, and found a man in his eighties unconscious and with major injuries.  He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the vehicle, an East Palo Alto man in his twenties, remained at the scene and has been cooperative with investigators.  He was uninjured.      

The initial investigation revealed that the pedestrian had been attempting to cross the street when he was struck by the vehicle, which was travelling Eastbound on the 800 block of Embarcadero Road.

The exact cause of the collision is under investigation by our Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team.  There is no indication at this point that either drugs or alcohol played a part in this incident.  The driver has not been arrested or cited at this early juncture.
