Police Seek Man Who Groped 15-Year-Old Girl in Homer Avenue Tunnel
Contact : Marco Estrada, Agent, Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA – Police are looking for a man who grabbed the buttocks of a 15-year-old girl in the Homer Avenue tunnel near downtown Palo Alto on Monday afternoon.

On Monday, May 9, 2016, at about 3:56 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a parent reporting that their 15-year-old daughter had been the victim of a sexual battery that had occurred about 20 minutes previously at the Homer Avenue pedestrian tunnel near Alma Street.  Officers responded to the area but could not locate the suspect.

The investigation revealed that the victim had been walking eastbound through the tunnel when an unknown suspect approached her from behind and grabbed her buttocks for a few seconds.  Once she started screaming, the suspect ran away westbound through the tunnel.  The victim was not injured, and continued walking to her home, where she told a parent what had happened.

The victim described the suspect as a 40-year-old Hispanic male, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build.  She said he had a short buzzed haircut, was unshaven, and had a goatee.  She said he was wearing a black short-sleeved T-shirt with dark blue jeans.  The victim said he smelled bad, and also had crooked teeth. If the victim is able to meet with a police artist to produce a sketch of the suspect, we will release it as soon as it is available. Detectives are investigating to determine if this incident is connected to any other cases, either in Palo Alto or surrounding communities.

Police ask for your help with reporting suspicious activity immediately via 9-1-1.  We also advise parents to remind children to remain alert no matter where they are, and to tell a trusted adult immediately about anything they see that does not seem quite right.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413.  Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent via text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984.  Tips can also be submitted anonymously through our free mobile app, downloadable at bit.ly/PAPD-AppStore or bit.ly/PAPD-GooglePlay.
