Palo Alto, CA – After a verbal argument between two men turned into a physical fight leaving the victim with serious injuries, police arrested the suspect for felony battery.

On Friday, February 26, 2016, at about 8:34 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a man (later identified as the suspect) reporting a fight that had just occurred in the 200 block of Olive Avenue.  Upon arrival, officers located the victim (a man in his sixties) lying down in his vehicle nearby.  The victim's face was covered in blood.

The investigation revealed that the victim and suspect both were residing in their vehicles on Olive Avenue.  They got into a verbal argument over the cleanliness on the street, and that argument soon turned physical.  The victim sustained broken bones in his face, cuts on his face, and a laceration to his forearm that appeared to be a stab wound.  Police recovered a small folding knife from the suspect’s vehicle.  The suspect sustained small cuts on his hands but was otherwise uninjured.  Paramedics from the Palo Alto Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

Police booked 64-year-old Steven Edward Garrett of Mountain View into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for felony battery causing serious bodily injury.  His booking photo is attached to this release.
