Armed Suspects Rob Employees of Movie Theater After Closing Time
Contact : Brian Philip, Sergeant, Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA – Two men armed with handguns entered a movie theater lobby after closing time last night and robbed two employees.  There were no injuries, and the suspects are at large.

On Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at about 10:05 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a 9-1-1 call from employees at CineArts at Palo Alto Square at 3000 El Camino Real reporting they had just been robbed.  Officers responded immediately but the suspects could not be located.

The investigation revealed that the crime happened after the movies had finished playing.  No moviegoers were present, and the two employees had been cleaning up to go home for the night.  The lobby doors were still unlocked and open.   One suspect walked into the lobby and pointed a gun at the first victim, an adult male in his teens.  A second suspect then came in and put a gun to the head of the second victim, a woman in her twenties.  The suspects demanded their cell phones, and demanded to be taken to the safe.  The employees complied and opened the safe, but when the suspects did not see much money readily accessible, they immediately fled on foot.

The victims described the first suspect as a Hispanic male in his twenties, about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a skinny build.  He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, and a black mask similar to an athletic training mask.  The victims described the second suspect as a black male in his twenties, about 6 feet tall with a skinny build.  He also was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, and a black mask of some type.  Both suspects were armed with black semi-automatic handguns.  No surveillance video exists, and no suspect sketches are available at this time.
