Burglary and Carjacking Suspect Convicted

Palo Alto, CA - Burglary and double-carjacking suspect Luis Gerrardo Gonzalez, 43, from East Palo Alto was convicted of the interrupted residential burglary and carjacking case from last year. On June 26, 2006, Gonzalez was burglarizing a residence in the 4100 block of Middlefield Road. The victim returned home and surprised Gonzalez who pulled a gun on the homeowner. Gonzalez took the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene. Less than 10 minutes later, Gonzalez carjacked another vehicle in the 500 block of Charleston Road. Gonzalez fleeing crashed into a pole on West Bayshore at Colorado Avenue and escaped on foot. Police surrounded the adjoining neighborhood and a large scale manhunt ensued. Gonzalez was arrested the next morning walking along East Bayshore Road, wet and in possession of a handgun.

Gonzalez was convicted of First Degree Burglary, two counts of Carjacking, one count of Felon in Possession of a firearm, one count of a Felon in Possession of Ammunition and one count of Possession of Stolen Property. Gonzalez was acquitted of the charge of Robbery. Gonzalez is looking at a potential 215 years to life in prison at sentencing.
