Contact : James Reifschneider, Sergeant, Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA – An officer-involved shooting occurred on Christmas night near downtown Palo Alto.  No officers were injured, and a single suspect suffered fatal injuries.

On Friday, December 25, 2015, at about 9:16 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 600 block of Forest Avenue.  Initial reports indicated that a person at the residence wanted to harm someone.  The preliminary investigation revealed that when officers arrived on scene, the suspect charged at officers while armed with a knife.  At 9:23 p.m., officers reported that shots had been fired.  No officers were injured, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where they have since succumbed to their injuries.

Investigators from the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office are conducting a parallel investigation alongside the Palo Alto Police Department, as is standard in any officer-involved shooting investigation.

No information about the identity of the suspect will be released by the Palo Alto Police Department.  All inquiries about the suspect’s identity can be directed to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
