Suspect Arrested After Early-Morning Auto Burglary Attempt
Contact : Zach Perron, Lieutenant, Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA – Police arrested a suspect in the early morning hours this week after a private security officer detained him for trying to break into a car in a residential neighborhood.

On Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at about 2:47 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a private security officer who had detained a suspect after watching him attempt to break into an unoccupied car in the 1400 block of Hamilton Avenue.  Police responded and took custody of the suspect.

The investigation revealed that the private security officer had seen the suspect walk up two different private driveways on the block.  The suspect was shining a flashlight into the cars parked in the driveways.  As the security officer watched, the suspect attempted to force open a locked car door.  The security officer then intervened, detained the suspect, and called the police.  The car was not damaged and the suspect did not gain entry to it.

Police determined the suspect was under the influence of narcotics and was in possession of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and burglary tools (a bent metal rod and a 3" nail).

Officers booked the suspect, 51-year-old Anthony Ray Price of East Palo Alto, into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted auto burglary (a felony) and several misdemeanor charges (prowling, under the influence of narcotics, and possession of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and burglary tools).  Police also booked Price, who is on parole for drug possession, for a felony parole violation.  His booking photo is attached.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413.  Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent via text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984.  Tips can also be submitted anonymously through our free mobile app, downloadable at bit.ly/PAPD-AppStore or bit.ly/PAPD-GooglePlay.
