Palo Alto, CA – Police arrested a man Friday afternoon who was wanted in connection with a stabbing that occurred in late September.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at about 7:18 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a phone call from someone who reported that a man had been stabbed by an unknown suspect earlier in the evening.  They said the victim was outside of Happy Donuts, located at 3916 El Camino Real.  Officers and personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department responded immediately.

The investigation revealed that the victim, a man in his twenties, had sustained a single stab wound in the back.  The victim told police the crime occurred on Cypress Lane, which runs behind the businesses in that area of El Camino Real, earlier in the evening.  The victim told police he did not know who stabbed him, said he never saw the suspect at any point, and did not know why someone would stab him.  Personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was admitted.  He has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.

Detectives subsequently developed information identifying the suspect as 23-year-old Daniel Vasquez of Palo Alto.  Detectives presented the case to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for review, and obtained an arrest warrant for Vasquez on October 9 charging him with one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon.

On Friday, October 9, 2015 at about 4:00 p.m., detectives located the suspect at a residence on the 3900 block of El Camino Real and arrested him without incident pursuant to the warrant.  The suspect’s booking photograph is attached to this release.
