Bike Palo Alto 2015! is a fun, free, family-friendly event designed to encourage residents to ride their bikes more often for local shopping and other trips around the city.  The event will be held at El Carmelo Elementary School on Sunday, October 4, 1-4 p.m. Pre-registration is not required.

  • At El Carmelo School, participants sign in, then get free bike maintenance, find suggested routes to schools, as well as learn how to fit their helmets and where to access maps and local biking information.
  • Participants will then choose one of three self-guided routes that highlight some of the main bikeways in Palo Alto and connections to neighboring cities. There will be short, medium and long options for all ages and abilities on each route.
  • As further motivation along the routes, there will be free treats provided by local vendors, including Whole Foods and Mollie Stone's, and, once again, smoothies made to order from bike powered blenders.
Last year's event had over 400 participants and planners are hoping for more this year.

This event highlights Palo Alto's award-winning bike routes, including bike boulevards, off-street paths, bike bridges and bike lanes that connect all across town.  Participants will have a chance to see that biking for local trips can be easy and fun, using routes that are not the same as one would use in a car.

Bike Palo Alto! is hosted by Palo Alto bike enthusiasts who organize this event to educate, encourage and promote bicycling as a healthy and fun way to address climate change, congestion and parking problems in our community. With the new "Carbon Neutral Electricity" plan passed in Palo Alto, transportation has become Palo Alto's largest source of carbon emissions.  So leave the parking and congestion hassles behind, get on your bike and have fun while being part of the solution!

Bike Palo Alto! is sponsored by: City of Palo Alto, El Carmelo Elementary School, Silicon Valley Bike Coalition, Barron Park Association, Whole Foods, The Sweet Shop, Mike’s Bikes, Mollie Stone's, Palo Alto Bicycles, and Copy Factory.
