Alert Neighbor’s Call Leads to Arrest of Prowler
Contact : Marco Estrada, Agent, Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA – An alert resident called 9-1-1 after seeing a man climb into her neighbor's backyard.  Police located the suspect in the yard and arrested him for prowling and being under the influence of a narcotic.

On Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at about 2:20 p.m. our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a resident of the 600 block of Melville Avenue reporting that she had just seen an unfamiliar man climb into the backyard of her neighbor’s house.  Officers responded to the area and located the suspect in the backyard.  He was detained without incident.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had climbed over the fence into the enclosed backyard of the unoccupied home without the knowledge or permission of the owner.  The suspect was also found to be under the influence of a narcotic.

Police booked the suspect, thirty-year-old Simon Arroyo of Palo Alto, into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for prowling and being under the influence of a narcotic, both misdemeanors.  A booking photograph is attached to this release.

Police credit the original reporting party for not only recognizing suspicious behavior (in the form of an unfamiliar man entering her neighbor’s property), but also for calling 9-1-1.  The timely call, coupled with a quick response from our officers, led directly to this arrest.
