Front Desk of Police Department to Re-Open for Friday Service Hours
Contact : Zach Perron, Lieutenant, Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA -- After six years of being closed to the public on Fridays, the Palo Alto Police Department is pleased to announce that our front desk will be re-opening for full service on Fridays beginning on August 14.

Effective Monday, August 10, our front desk will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The change is due to improved staffing levels within the Records Division, as well as division personnel adjusting and staggering their work schedules.

"Our front desk personnel provide an array of services to the community and are the public face of the police department," said Technical Services Director Charles Cullen.  “We're happy to be able to offer their services during all five days of the business week again.”

Front desk staff greet the public and make referrals to appropriate police staff members.  They provide copies of incident reports, facilitate officers taking crime reports, handle traffic citation sign-offs, process misdemeanants by taking fingerprints and booking photographs, and more.  Behind the scenes, front desk staff process police reports, citations, and arrest warrants.  They enter information into local, state, and federal computer systems.  They handle the data entry that fuels our crime statistics and crime analysis, and they also produce a daily report log for the public and the media.

For the past six years, Records Division staff has worked on Fridays, but the public counter has not been open.  This allowed them to catch up on their multitude of administrative duties and the processing of paperwork from the work week.

Police officers in our Field Services Division are always on-duty around the clock.  For after-hours assistance when the front desk is closed, those needing police service can contact our 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413.
