Police Investigate Possible Murder-Suicide at Apartment Complex
Contact : Marianna Villaescusa, Agent, Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA -- Police are investigating the gunshot deaths of two men inside an apartment complex in what appears may have been a murder-suicide.

On Thursday, March 19, 2015, at about 3:19 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from an elderly resident of the Alta Torre Apartments at 3895 Fabian Way reporting that they had caught a glimpse of a person in need of medical assistance inside an elevator car.  Personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department responded, located the adult male patient inside the elevator with a semi-automatic handgun on his lap, and determined that he was dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  At 3:28 p.m., the Fire Department personnel summoned police officers, who responded immediately.  Upon checking the area, officers discovered another adult male dead with multiple gunshot wounds inside a first floor office.  Police do not believe that anyone else was involved in this crime.

Detectives and crime scene personnel processed the scene for the next several hours.  The circumstances of the two deaths remain under investigation at this time.  The man found in the elevator car was in his sixties, and the man found in the office was in his seventies.  Both men lived at the facility.  No additional information about the identities of the two men will be released by the Palo Alto Police Department.  All inquiries about their identities can be directed to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office.  Once the investigation is complete, we will release additional information about this case and the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The Alta Torre Apartments provide affordable housing for seniors. There are 56 apartments in the facility.
