Police Seek Overnight Burglar
Contact : Brian Philip, Detective Sergeant, Police    650-329-2413
A burglar broke into a residence overnight while the occupants slept, stole several electronic devices, and escaped undetected.  The suspect remains at large.

On Monday, March 9, 2015, at about 8:24 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a resident reporting that an unknown intruder had entered their home sometime overnight.  Officers responded to the home, located on the 4200 block of Wilkie Way, but did not locate the suspect.

The investigation revealed that an unknown suspect had entered the residence via an unlocked side door at some point after 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8.  Once inside, the suspect rummaged through the first floor rooms and stole several electronic devices.  During the burglary, the residents were asleep on the home's second floor and unaware of the intrusion.  They only learned of the burglary upon venturing downstairs later in the morning.  There is no information to suggest that the intruder entered the occupied upper floor of the home during the burglary.

Detectives are actively investigating this case.  Overnight burglaries of occupied homes are a rarity in Palo Alto; the last time a similar incident occurred was in July 2014.  Detectives will be looking for any possible links between the two cases.

Officers are increasing overnight patrols in neighborhoods in response to this incident.  Police recommend that residents lock and secure all doors and windows overnight.  For a list of other crime prevention tips, visit our website at
