Palo Alto, CA -- Officers arrested a man last week after he fired a pellet gun multiple times into an occupied business from the balcony of his home.  No one was injured.

On Thursday, October 30, 2014, at about 10:52 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from Jiffy Lube at 4195 El Camino Real reporting that a man was shooting a pellet gun into the business from a balcony of the condominium complex behind the shop.  Officers responded immediately and searched for the suspect.

A short time later, officers detained the suspect as he exited his home.  The investigation revealed that the suspect had fired several rounds from a realistic-looking pellet gun down into the Jiffy Lube, a distance of approximately 65 feet.  The rounds narrowly missed a Jiffy Lube employee, and struck signs at the business and one customer's car causing minor damage.  Officers located the pellet gun (an 8-inch revolver powered by a carbon dioxide cartridge; see attached photograph of the actual weapon and accompanying .177-caliber rounds) inside the suspect’s home and collected it as evidence.

Police booked 26-year-old Palo Alto resident Junwei Gu into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for a single count of felony assault with a deadly weapon, due to the potential for serious injury had the employee actually been struck.  A booking photo of the suspect is attached to this release.
