Palo Alto, CA -- Police are asking for the public's help in locating a Palo Alto man who battered and sexually assaulted his live-in girlfriend early this morning.  He may be armed with a knife.

On Sunday, October 26, 2014, at about 3:20 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a 9-1-1 call from a victim reporting a domestic battery and sexual assault and that had just occurred at her residence in the 2800 block of Alma Street.  Officers responded immediately, but the suspect fled out the back door prior to police arrival and left on foot.

The investigation revealed that the suspect, 28-year-old Tyler Wallace, had sexually assaulted and battered his live-in girlfriend, a woman in her twenties.  He also brandished a knife at her during the incident.  The victim did not require medical treatment at the scene.

Police established a perimeter containment in the neighborhood and conducted a canine search for the suspect.  Officers discontinued the search at about 6:00 a.m. after determining the suspect was not in the containment area.  While officers located a knife within the search area, we cannot confirm if it is the same knife with which he left the home.

Detectives are actively working on this investigation, but as of this afternoon have exhausted all initial leads to locate the suspect.  We are asking for the public’s assistance in locating him.  Wallace is a white male adult, about 6 feet 1 inch tall, with a skinny build and brown hair.  He is unshaven.  He was last seen wearing dark clothing, possibly including black pajama bottoms with images of paper money on them.  A Department of Motor Vehicles photograph of the suspect (taken in May 2014) is attached to this release.

Police called individual homes in the affected area as the canine search progressed. Police did not make an automated phone notification due to the early-morning hour and the small search area.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of this suspect is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413.  Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to or sent via text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984.  Tips can also be submitted anonymously through our free mobile app, downloadable at or
