Palo Alto, CA -- Police arrested a man for assaulting his roommate with a knife during an argument inside their home last week.  The victim sustained moderate injuries but has since been released from a local hospital.

On Thursday, October 16, 2014, at about 8:34 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a 9-1-1 call from a man reporting he had just been assaulted with a knife by his roommate inside their home in the 400 block of Hawthorne Avenue.  Upon arrival, officers encountered the victim, a man in his forties, walking out of the house bleeding from his head.  Personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department transported him to a local hospital.

The investigation revealed that the two men got into an argument with one another in the kitchen.  When the argument turned physical, the suspect picked up a steak knife and began swinging it at the victim, cutting him a couple of times on the head and once in the shoulder.  The victim retreated to his room and called 9-1-1.

Officers booked the suspect, 64-year-old Michael Kenneth Otwell of Palo Alto, into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for one count of felony assault with a deadly weapon.  Otwell received injuries to his face and head from the altercation with the victim.
