Palo Alto, CA -- Police have arrested a man who sexually battered a woman on a Palo Alto sidewalk last month while walking his dog.

On Thursday, August 7, 2014, at about 6:17 p.m., a woman in her fifties reported to police that she had been sexually battered in the 2300 block of Amherst Street by a man walking a dog after the man had struck up a conversation with her and walked with her for several blocks.  The woman was not injured.  She provided a detailed description of the suspect to police.  We distributed a news release about the incident on August 8 (click here to view that release).

Over the course of the following weeks, detectives conducted follow-up investigation into the case and were able to positively identify the suspect.  On Thursday, September 18, detectives obtained a warrant for the suspect's arrest after presenting the case to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.  The warrant charged the suspect with one misdemeanor count of sexual battery (for the touching) and one misdemeanor count of lewd conduct (for soliciting the victim to engage in lewd conduct in public).

On September 18 at about 10:22 p.m., deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office conducted a vehicle stop on the suspect on Highway 280 at Black Mountain Road in Hillsborough and discovered his outstanding arrest warrant.  Deputies booked 23-year-old Palo Alto resident Arthur Julian Fodor into the San Mateo County Main Jail for the warrant.  A booking photo is attached to this release.
