Palo Alto, CA -- Police arrested two suspects yesterday in a felony assault case where one suspect pulled a sweatshirt over the victim's head before striking him repeatedly in the head with a large, metal flashlight.  The victim sustained moderate injuries.

On Sunday, August 10, 2014, at about 4:45 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a report of a battery that had occurred outside a residence in the 1400 block of Tasso Street around 4:10 a.m.  Police responded to the Stanford Hospital Emergency Room and met with the victim, an adult male in his late teens.

The investigation revealed that the victim had walked outside his home when he was attacked by a suspect previously known to the victim.  The suspect pulled a sweatshirt over the victim’s head and began striking the victim’s head with a large metal flashlight.  The victim was able to pull away and disarm the suspect, who kept trying to punch the victim in the head.  The victim fought back, and struck the suspect once in the head with the flashlight, causing the suspect to fall to the ground.  A second suspect then came to the primary suspect’s aid, and helped him into their getaway car, a black 1990 Acura two-door sedan.  The suspects fled the scene in that vehicle.  The victim’s family transported the victim to the hospital for help, at which point police were notified.  It appears as though the suspects had made prior arrangements with the victim to meet him outside his home.

As officers were interviewing the victim, the injured suspect also happened to arrive at the emergency room to seek medical attention.  The second suspect had driven him there and later left.  The injured suspect was admitted to the hospital for a moderate injury to his head, and was eventually released on Tuesday evening, August 12.

Over the course of the next few days, detectives conducted follow-up investigation and eventually presented the case to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, who filed a single felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon against both suspects.  Police obtained warrants for the arrest of both suspects on Wednesday morning, August 13.

On August 13 at about 2:02 p.m., detectives arrested the second suspect, 24-year-old Palo Alto resident Christopher Stadler Snyder, following a car vehicle stop near Ross Road and Ames Avenue.  Police later booked him into the Santa Clara County Main Jail pursuant to the arrest warrant.  At about 8:20 p.m., detectives arranged to have the primary suspect, 20-year-old Palo Alto resident Logan Phillip Korecky self-surrender at the Main Jail.  The booking photos of both suspects are attached to this release.

The victim received moderate injuries to his head as a result of the assault, but was released from the hospital later in the day on August 10.
