Palo Alto, CAWith a plan to take a beyond City Hall approach to civic conversations and engagement, Our Palo Alto officially launches this month with a conversation about the City's changing demographics and what the changes in the City’s population mean for the future.

On April 23, Our Palo Alto will host its first discussion, "Who Are We," from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Downtown Library, 270 Forest Ave.   Former Mayor Sid Espinosa will moderate a panel discussion with local thought leaders including Steve Levy (Center for Continuing Study of the California Economy), David Evan Harris (Institute for the Future), and Ann Dunkin (Palo Alto Unified School District).  Attendees will also have the opportunity to view Made Into America, an online archive of stories from people about their families’ immigration to the U.S. and to Palo Alto.  In addition, throughout April, the City Library will be hosting a participation project that asks individual community members to share their stories of how and why they came to Palo Alto.  To share your story, stop by any of the City’s library branches.   Click here for more information.

The conversation will continue later in the month with a discussion on Affordable Housing and challenges faced by renters, homebuyer and employers within the Palo Alto housing market.  There will be two opportunities to join in this discussion, on April 28 at 3 p.m. at Lucie Stern Community Center, 1305 Middlefield Road, and on April 30 at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 4249 El Camino Real. Speakers will include Bena Chang of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and Genevieve Sharron, MIG Consultants.
