Contact : Marianna Villaescusa, Agent, Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA -- A man walking past a woman on an El Camino Real sidewalk yesterday afternoon made a lewd comment to her, grabbed her buttocks, and fled.

On Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at about 2:07 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a woman reporting that she had just been the victim of a sexual battery in the 3500 block of El Camino Real.  Officers responded to the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The investigation revealed that the victim, a woman in her forties, had been walking southbound on the east sidewalk of El Camino Real, just south of Margarita Avenue.  Two men were walking together northbound on the sidewalk towards her.  After they passed each other, one of the men made a lewd comment to the victim and then grabbed her buttocks with one of his hands.  The victim screamed, ran into a nearby business, and told the owner what had occurred.  Together, they went back outside to look for the suspect and the other man, but they had disappeared.  The victim then called police.

The victim described the suspect as a white male in his forties, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 200 pounds.  She said he had a ruddy complexion and appeared somewhat "dirty" in appearance.  She said he was wearing a brown flannel jacket a dark, square-shaped hat with a small brim.  He did not speak with an accent.  No suspect sketch is likely forthcoming.  The suspect was accompanied by a white male in his thirties, about 170-180 pounds, with blonde hair and a mustache.

There have been no other similar cases recently in Palo Alto.
