PALO ALTO, CA– The Palo Alto Art Center and The Palo Alto Art Center Foundation are proud to present five visiting Chinese artists who will present their unique mastery of Chinese ceramics as part of International Cultural Exchange Week from March 15-23.

The visiting artists are: Guangzhen Zhou from Shanghai/San Jose, California; Jackson Li from SanBao, Jingdezhen; Meiqun Gu from Yixing, Jiangsu; Xuan Zhou from Chang Chun City, Ji Lin Province; and Hsin-Chuen Lin from Taiwan/Fremont, Calif.

During the weeklong series of workshops and demonstrations, the artists will share their expertise in wheel-thrown pottery, handmade brush making, traditional Chinese brush painting on paper and ceramics, and Yixing teapot making.

“The Art Center is honored to host such a broad range of exceptional ceramic artists and offer this series of workshops, demonstrations and events to our community,” says Palo Alto Art Center Studio Program Director Fanny Retsek. “The exchange is a wonderful way to showcase how contemporary ceramic artists are using traditional Chinese methods in innovative ways with stunning results.”

A reception for the artists with presentations will kick-off the week on Friday, March 15. The Cultural Exchange Week will include hands-on workshops, demonstrations, and open studio opportunities to see the artists at work. The week will conclude with a one-day exhibition celebrating the work of all participating artists on Sunday, March 24.

In collaboration with Guangzhen Zhou and Chinese Clay Art, additional celebrated artists from various areas of China, including professors, university chairs, and other distinguished members of the ceramics community, will be touring the Bay Area and creating work in the Art Center Ceramics studios. Their work will be included in the closing exhibition.

The 2019 International Cultural Exchange Week at the Palo Alto Art Center is presented by the Palo Alto Art Center Foundation, the Sonoma Community Center, Chinese Ceramic Art Council, USA, and Clay Planet.
