Suspect Robs Sandwich Shop Last Night, Escapes with Cash

Palo Alto, CA An unarmed suspect robbed a Subway sandwich shop last night in Palo Alto.  The victim was not physically injured.  The suspect is unknown and at large.

On Monday, January 16, 2023, at about 8:36 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call reporting a strong-arm robbery that had just occurred at Subway at 3962 Middlefield Road in the Charleston Shopping Center.  Officers responded immediately but did not locate the suspect.

The investigation revealed that the victim, a woman in her forties, was reconciling the cash register at the end of her shift when the suspect entered the shop, greeted her in Spanish, and demanded all the money.  The suspect went behind the counter, took the cash, and ran out of the store.  The victim last saw him headed southbound on Middlefield Road on foot.  No one else was in the store at the time of the robbery.

The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic male, about 45 years old, and six feet tall with a skinny build.  He was wearing a black and red jacket and dark-colored pants.

Detectives are actively investigating this incident.  There have been no robberies matching this suspect description reported recently to police in Palo Alto.
