The University Avenue pedestrian only access and lane closures will go into effect Friday, February 12 helping to connect the community to expanded outdoor dining and retail opportunities on and off University Avenue. The closure configuration is the same as in November 2020, including pedestrian only access on University from Ramona to Kipling, with a one lane closure and one way vehicle pattern from Kipling to Cowper. In addition, Ramona will be closed north of Hamilton. California Avenue continues to be closed to vehicles offering pedestrian access from El Camino Real to Birch Street.
In addition, starting this weekend, the Farmer’s Market will offer a different configuration on California Avenue. The California Avenue Farmer’s Market is transitioning to a new layout that will allow restaurants to share the streets with market vendors during Sunday market hours. Previously, the Farmer’s Market has had exclusive use of California Avenue during market hours. To help restaurants provide outdoor dining access, the City, Farmer’s Market vendors, and Cal Ave restaurants developed a new vendor arrangement to share space and access. Starting Sunday, February 7, Farmer’s Market vendors transitioned to pilot new spaces designed to accommodate outdoor dining. Starting this Sunday, February 14, Cal Ave restaurants with a valid outdoor dining encroachment permit may use portions of the street for service alongside the Farmer’s Market vendors.
