City staff will begin work to close California Avenue on Friday, January 29 to reopen the street for expanded outdoor dining and retail opportunities. It is anticipated that the closure will be completed by the end of the day and extend from El Camino to Birch. The existing curbside pickup area on Ash will continue.

Staff is working with the business community on and off University Avenue to develop plans that could include the closure of a shorter segment of the street or other ways to increase vehicular access while still maximizing Downtown opportunities for residents to connect with outdoor dining options and pedestrian-only areas.

Earlier this week, the State lifted its Regional Stay at Home orders and put a majority of California back into the Blueprint for a Safer Economy’s purple tier. Santa Clara County has cleared the return to outdoor dining and other activities. Learn more about this action.
