Community Threads: Mending for Adults

mending.png

The fashion industry is one of the world's leading producers of waste - learning how to mend & prolong the lifetime of your clothing is a major step in helping the environment. As well as being environmentally friendly, mending is a calming & expressive art practice that you can use to creatively infuse new life into old clothes.

In this workshop, we will learn how to do some basic hand mending using sashiko techniques. You will need a garment that needs mending, or you can do practice stitches. We will provide materials to mend & practice on, & instructions for a variety of patterns & techniques.

Activities will be available while supplies last, and a Teen version specific version will be presented at Mitchell Park on Tuesday, April 25th.

This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services 40-9421.
