Every three years, the State of California adopts new green building standards and energy codes that set mandatory standards for both the residential and nonresidential buildings. Since 2008, Palo Alto has adopted enhanced green building codes and an energy reach code to align with our City’s sustainability goals. The current enhanced green building and energy reach codes will expire at the end of 2022 with a new code cycle becoming enforceable on January 1, 2023.
At this meeting, staff and the consultant, Integral Group, will present the proposed enhanced green building and energy reach code requirements. These local energy and green building regulations are intended to create a new generation of efficient, environmentally responsible, and healthy buildings. The proposed regulations are anticipated to be applicable on building permit applications for the following project types: 1) new single-family residential, 2) new multi-family residential, and 3) new commercial construction.
Following the presentation, there will be time for Q&A and to get input from attendees.
