Readings on Food & Cultural Identity - AAPI Heritage Month Event

Lunch Box Moments.png

Do you remember being made fun of for cultural foods you brought to school? Or did you never have a lunchbox moment?

Benefiting San Francisco Chinatown, Lunchbox Moments is a charity zine featuring work by 25 Asian American and Pacific Islander artists and writers that explores our relationships with food and cultural identity. We use the term "lunchbox moments" to include and also transcend literal school lunch narratives centered on shame.

Our authors express their shock at seeing classmates fling parathas like frisbees, reflect on how their parents' stir-fries could never match up to the Jell-O desserts in their favorite 1950s sitcoms, and lament how their lack of Chinese fluency means they cannot decipher the menu at their favorite restaurants. Please join us as a select group of our artists and writers present their work.
