The City of Palo Alto Wastewater Engineering Section is responsible for planning, designing, budgeting and construction of major capital improvements to the city’s wastewater collection system. This program rehabilitates or replaces about 200,000 linear feet of wastewater mains and 2,000 service laterals each year.
The Wastewater Collection Operations Section is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, operating and regulatory compliance of the city’s sanitary collection (sewer) system.

Water, Gas & Wastewater Utilities Standards
These standards govern the requirements for design and construction of all water, gas, and wastewater utility facilities within the City of Palo Alto. Private utilities on private property are under the jurisdiction of the City's Development Services Division. All WGW utility projects within the City's public right of way (including gas services up to and encompassing the gas meter) shall conform to these standards and the Public Works Standard Drawings and Specifications unless otherwise approved in writing by the Water, Gas, Wastewater Engineering Manager.
