This project includes planning, design and construction of multi-modal safety improvements in Downtown Palo Alto. This project began with a collaborative study of the existing mobility and safety challenges and opportunities in Downtown Palo Alto. Subsequent phases of the project included the development of various innovative project alternatives, testing of the alternatives using tactical urbanism demonstrations and pilots, and installation of permanent improvements. The permanent improvements included, but not limited to, retrofit of curb ramps to meet ADA Standards, installation of countdown pedestrian signal heads and ADA-accessible push buttons, and upgrade of several traffic signals. The Construction of permanent improvements generally occurred on University Avenue between High Street and Webster Street.
This project was completed in 2019.
University Avenue between (and including) High Street and Webster Street. Tactical urbanism trials occurred on Bryant Street between University Avenue and Forest Avenue.
