The Safe Routes to School Program contains a local community partnership between the City, Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD), and Parents Teacher Association (PTA). The partnership mission is to reduce risk to students en route to and from school and encourage families to choose healthy, active, sustainable alternatives to driving solo more often.

Safe Routes to School is part of a national movement targeting improved safety and active transportation choices for families and communities. The mission of the local City / Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) / Parent-Teacher Association Safe Routes to School (PTA SRTS) community partnership is to reduce risk to students en route to and from school, and to encourage more families to choose healthy, active, sustainable alternatives to driving solo more often. The Five-Year Work Plan outlines program goals and strategies for achieving them. Activity/program completion is dependent on program funding and capacity and may be subject to change as demand dictates. Going on walks and bike rides are great ways to stay active, enjoy our beautiful community and de-stress by getting your recommended 60-150 minutes of daily physical activity. Below we have provided some resources to enhance your walking and biking experience.

PAUSD Safe Routes to School Curriculum Life Skills Activities

The Palo Alto SRTS Program coordinates bicycle and pedestrian safety education for PAUSD families. More than 58% of PAUSD students currently walk or bike to school. Core education programs touch approximately 5,888 students, or roughly 49% of total PAUSD enrollment.
