Restroom Projects

The City of Palo Alto is currently installing new restrooms at a number of locations in Palo Alto recreation facilities.  These recreation facilities were chosen due to the high volume of use by the community and the high-quality facilities that require a restroom facility for prolonged use.  A capital improvement project was established in 2017 that provides funding every other year for new restroom facilities.

The new restroom facilities will be installed at the following locations.

Current Projects

Rinconada Park

The new Rinconada Park Restroom will be located adjacent to the newly remodeled playground at the park. The restroom will service the full park, but will provide closer facilities to the playground and group picnic areas that exist at that end of the park. The current restroom located centrally in the park will also be replaced as part of Phase 2 of the Rinconada long range renovation plan, which is anticipated to occur in 2025.

Installation Schedule: Summer 2023

Cubberley Community Play Fields and Track

The Cubberley Fields Restroom Project proposes to install a new prefabricated restroom building at the play fields. The restroom is a much-needed facility for the heavily used fields as there is currently only one portable restroom available onsite.

Staff identified the proposed restroom location as shown on map below, approximately 50 feet northeast of Nelson Drive. This location was proposed because it allows for gravity flow from the restroom to the City sewer line located on Nelson Drive and its close proximity to the adjacent fields. Other potential locations near the play fields would require a lift station for pumping sewage which would result in higher installation, operations and maintenance costs, and potential service interruption during power outages and other system failures.

On August 17, 2022, staff conducted a community meeting to obtain input on the proposed location. Due to the lack of community participation in the meeting, staff conducted an Online Survey(PDF, 6MB) from September 9 through October 14, 2022 to obtain feedback. We thank the community members who have completed the survey and provided feedback on the proposed restroom location.

The members of the community will be notified about the meeting and are encouraged to participate.
