Patti spent much of her early career as a community organizer and union organizer for SEIU and AFSCME. She ran the Hill Town project for the Hampshire County (Massachusetts) Community Action Center and was publications manager for the University of California Berkeley Center for Research and Education and later Coordinator of the Birth Place Resource Center in Menlo Park. For the past several years she has served as a substitute teacher for Palo Alto Unified Schools and for Beechwood School in the Bell Haven section of Menlo Park. She was part of the anti-apartheid movement, welfare rights movement and – more recently – has been working on immigrant rights. She serves as a Palo Alto Zero Waste leader and is active in issues around the climate emergency. Patti grew up in Sunnyvale, graduated from U.C. Santa Cruz in Community Studies and has lived in Palo Alto since 1995 and, with her husband Larry, raised two children who went to Palo Alto public schools. If you want to speak with Commissioner Regehr about any issues, please email her at Patti@Safekids.com.
