Like Birds of a Feather
Cubberley artist and woodworker Darryl Dieckman is fascinated by the wide variety of architectural styles found in Palo Alto and has spent the past year contemplating our community’s isolation during the stay-at-home order. As we are emerging from isolation, we re-engage with their neighbors, and re-learn the art of flying in a post-pandemic world.
This ArtLift Microgrant reinterprets iconic Palo Alto architecture as a series of birdhouses built by the community. Over the summer, community members will construct birdhouses using Palo Alto themed kits during in-person workshops at Cubberley Community Center on July 17th and July 18th and at virtual workshops in the Palo Alto Library’s Wacky Wednesday series on August 11th.
Completed birdhouses will be exhibited at the Town and Country Shopping Center and Mitchell Park Library.
Town and Country Shopping Center exhibit: Birdhouses from the Cubberley workshops will be on exhibit in Suite 20 (next to Howard's Shoes for Children) at Town and Country Shopping Center from August 1st to August 31st.
Mitchell Park Library Exhibit: Birdhouses from the Palo Alto Library Wacky Wednesday workshop will be on exhibit at Mitchell Park Library from August 17th to August 31st.
