California Eviction Moratorium Update

This week Governor Newsom signed legislation extending the California’s eviction moratorium through September 30, 2021 and clearing rent debt for low-income Californians who have suffered economic hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The moratorium was set to expire on June 30, 2021. Bill AB 832 increases reimbursement to 100 percent for both rent that is past due and prospective payments for both tenants and landlords, increases cash assistance to low-income tenants and small landlords, and helps with utility bills. Rent and Utility Rate Assistance

Applying for rent and utility relief is now easier. Applications for rent and utility assistance through California's COVID-19 rent and utilities relief program have been simplified: it now takes less time to complete, requires fewer documents to be uploaded, and offers helpful tips throughout the application. Palo Alto Utilities’ Utilities Assistance page has been update with more information on the various relief and assistance programs available. Go here for more.
