City
of Palo Alto Utilities Selects New Equipment
Supplier for Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Trial
|
Palo Alto, CA -- The City of Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU)
announced it will test a Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) solution on
loan from Quantum Bridge/Motorola to replace the original equipment
serving the 70 participants in its Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Trial.
The original equipment on loan from an alternate vendor was replaced.
Quantum Bridge/Motorola was chosen because it is one of the few
companies with a Full Service Access Networks (FSAN) compliant system.
Quantum Bridge/Motorola provided the equipment for this trial for
a period of one year at no cost to the City and also provided assistance
with equipment installation.
A FTTP network for citywide deployment in Palo Alto is currently
under study. If the City Council and community approve a permanent
expansion of this trial, then a public Request for Proposal (RFP)
process would begin to select services and equipment. No commitments
have been made to select Quantum Bridge/Motorola regarding full
deployment if and when a citywide fiber optic build-out occurs.
