Mobile Workshop on Charleston and Arastradero Corridor

Palo Alto, CA -- The public is invited to a special meeting to provide input on the Charleston Road and Arastradero Road Corridor. Sponsored by the Transportation Division of the City of Palo Alto Department of Planning and Community Environment, the "mobile workshop" along the Charleston-Arastradero Corridor will look at designs for several traffic "hot spots."

"The mobile workshop consists of a group of pedestrians who will walk or drive the route and inspect the various hot spots," says Chief Transportation Official Joe Kott. "People can see first hand the design changes recommended."

The Charleston Road-Arastradero Road Corridor Plan includes reconfiguring the Louis/Montrose median. The objective is to better protect turning vehicles and pedestrians, while keeping the median impermeable for through movement from Louis to Montrose. In addition, the proposed designs provide a sufficiently long left turn lane for eastbound vehicles turning into the Hoover driveway and also provide a dedicated right turn lane, separating eastbound right turners from westbound left turners at the Gunn driveway.

Recently, Jay Thorwaldson of the Palo Alto Weekly repeated the old joke about Palo Alto being "a town of 60,000 traffic engineers," so a sizable turnout of interested residents is expected.

The Transportation Division asks all attendees to remember to be safe at all times during the mobile workshop, especially as participants will be assembling as a group of pedestrians, in effect, at each "hot spot" site. Everyone who is interested is welcome to follow us from one "hot spot" to another (transportation is on your own) or just show up at one or two of the locations below.
