Mayor's Bike Ride Wraps Up Walk To School Week

Palo Alto, CA -- As a wrap up to Walk to School Week, Mayor Dena Mossar will host a community bicycle ride on Saturday, October 11th. The event is free and open to the public and the community is invited to attend.

"This ride celebrates our Bicycle Friendly Community designation and our commitment to walking and bicycling to school" said Mossar, "bicycling is a fun community activity and I hope that you will join me on the ride."

The ride begins at 10:00 a.m. at JLS Middle School, 480 East Meadow Drive and goes southwest on East Meadow to Bryant Street, the Ellen Fletcher Bicycle Boulevard, then north on Bryant to Palo Alto City Hall, 250 Hamilton Avenue. The ride should arrive downtown by 10:30 am. Palo Alto Police will accompany the ride and assist at major intersections and Community Policing representatives will be present at the end of the ride to license bicycles. A mechanic will be on hand to do bike checks at City Hall. Residents are invited to join at the start of the ride, somewhere in the middle, or at the end. "People are welcome anywhere along the route," said Mossar.

The route will follow Bryant Street north from East Meadow Drive to Bryant and will end at Palo Alto City Hall, 250 Hamilton Avenue. The ride will go at a pace that accommodates all riders and will follow all traffic laws. Those planning to join the ride along the route should calculate for riding time from the start at JLS.

Questions about the ride can be directed to Amanda Jones, Transportation Coordinator for the City of Palo Alto at 650-329-2568.
