A fun morning of organic coffee tasting and organic gardening
know-how
|
Palo Alto, CA -- The City of Palo Alto, Foundation for Global
Community, and Common Ground Garden Supply are offering an organic
coffee tasting followed by a less toxic pest control and composting
workshop (Saturday, September 20, 9:30am-noon at 222 High Street,
Palo Alto). Attendees will learn how to compost and glean garden
clean-out tips that will help prevent next spring's pests such as
snails, slugs and aphids. A prize drawing will be held and workshop
attendees who are Palo Alto residents will receive a voucher for
a reduced-cost compost bin. Workshop sponsors will provide information
about local community gardens, and organic garden supply and food
programs.
"We have amazing resources right here in Palo Alto that help
residents, businesses and schools all over the Peninsula create
beautiful organic gardens," says Susan Stansbury, Director
of Valley of Hearts Delight-a Foundation for Global Community project.
Over 200 people attended similar workshops held last year by the
City of Palo Alto. This combined less-toxic pest control/composting
workshop will be the last one in 2003, although compost workshops
continue monthly through the City's Recycling Program.
To register for the workshop, call the Recycling Program at (650)
496-5910. Call (650) 329-2598 or visit www.cityofpaloalto.org/cleanbay/pest.html
for Bug Buster workshop information, local stores carrying less-toxic
products, and on-line pest control information. Sponsored by
the City of Palo Alto Water Quality, Recycling and Community Garden
Programs; Common Ground Garden Supply, and Foundation for Global
Community.
