City
Presents Lunch Hour Talks on Bicycling
|
Palo Alto, CA -- The City of Palo Alto Transportation Division
is sponsoring two Noontime "Sandwich Symposium" presentations
on bicycling in May, as part of Bicycle to Work and School Month.
The events are free and open to the public.
On Friday, May 16th, Doug Schwandt, a researcher and engineer at
the Veteran's Administration Hospital will give a presentation entitled
"All About Specialty Bicycles." Schwandt will discuss
the increased popularity and other aspects of specialty bicycles
such as hand cycles and tandems.
On Friday, May 30th, Amanda Jones of the Palo Alto Transportation
Division staff will present a motivational session on "How
to Make Bicycling a Regular Part of Your Work Commute." Jones
will give tips on cycling throughout the year, foul weather cycling,
night riding, and personal safety and will have plenty of time for
questions from residents about safe cycling.
Both programs will take place from Noon until 1:30pm in the Council
Conference Room, Palo Alto City Hall, 250 Hamilton Avenue. At previous
sessions, participants have enjoyed their brown bag lunches during
these Sandwich Symposia, according to organizer Joe Kott. "We
encourage people to join us to listen and learn, and eat lunch at
the same time. It's a very casual atmosphere."
For the past four years, the Transportation Division's Sandwich
Symposium series of lunch hour presentations has engaged the community
and staff in informal and stimulating seminars on transportation
topics of interest in Palo Alto. For further information, please
call the Transportation Division at 329-2520.
