"Watts On Your Mind?" Annual Children's Parade Celebrates The Use of Smart Energy

Palo Alto, CA -- The City of Palo Alto Recreation Special Events Division invites children to march in its 81st Annual May Fête Children's Parade. The parade, with this year's theme "Watts On Your Mind?" is set for Saturday, May 3, 2003 and will celebrate the use of smart energy and sustainability. Pre-registration is required for youth groups and the Palo Alto Weekly Float contest. The entry deadline is Friday, April 18, 2003. Applications are not required for individual entries. Individual kids who show up by 9:45 a.m. the morning of the parade can march in one of three categories, including Kids with Pets, Kids in Costume, and Kids on Wheels.

NBC-11 news anchors Lisa Kim and Allen Denton will serve as this year's Grand Marshals. The morning will be filled with spirited entertainment from local high school and junior high school marching bands, and thousands of children skipping, skating, cycling, and strolling through downtown Palo Alto. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of Emerson Street and University Avenue.

After the parade, be sure to stop by Addison School to enjoy food, music, games, and a school showcase at the 1st Ever Town Fair, hosted by the All Schools Fund.

To request a parade entry form, please call (650) 463-4921. This exciting event is presented by the City of Palo Alto Recreation Special Events and is sponsored by the Palo Alto Recreation Foundation, NBC-11, and the Palo Alto Weekly.
