Police Launch Online Crime Reporting

Palo Alto, CA -- Today, Police Chief Pat Dwyer announced that the Palo Alto Police Department is now providing a convenient on-line reporting option for victims of certain crimes that occur within the city limits. Victims can connect with the police website at www.papd.org, click ONLINE POLICE REPORTING, and fill out a form to report minor crimes without suspects. Visitors to the website are immediately prompted to call 911 if the crime is in progress. Contact phone numbers are given to report crimes in which there are suspects or otherwise do not meet the on-line reporting criteria.

Police Webmaster Larry O'Brien said, "It's very user friendly. Without any publicity we already have received four reports." Chief Dwyer praised Police Technical Services Commander Sheryl Contois and Mr. O'Brien for taking the initiative to bring Online Police Reporting to fruition. Dwyer said, "This project will improve customer service and allow more efficient use of field resources."
