LIBRARY HOURS CUT DUE TO STAFFING SHORTAGE

Palo Alto, CA -- Starting the week of February 17, the hours at two of the six branches of the Palo Alto City Library will be shortened as staff is shifted to cover a vacant Librarian position at Children's Library. Downtown Library will be closed to the public on Mondays and College Terrace Library will be closed on Thursdays.

The Library currently has some vacant positions that will remain unfilled while the City's hiring freeze is in effect. Staff will be shifted from Downtown and College Terrace to help support ongoing operations and programs at Children's, one of the three key resource libraries in the system. The other resource libraries are Main Library in north Palo Alto and Mitchell Park Library in south Palo Alto.

Acting Director of Libraries Diane Jennings worked with other library managers to identify the best days to close so the fewest people will be affected. "We're confident that in spite of reduced staffing we can continue to provide the core services that Palo Altans value in their libraries," said Jennings.
