Palo Alto, CA -- On 12/9/06, at approximately 1330 hours, a Palo Alto Police Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle in the area of Channing Avenue and West Bayshore Road. The vehicle, occupied by five people, failed to yield and continued to drive along various side streets.  A computer check of the license plate number indicated that the vehicle was stolen from a Menlo Park resident earlier in the day. Two officers in two separate patrol cars continued to follow the vehicle until it eventually yielded on the 600 block of Oregon Avenue .

As the vehicle rolled to a stop, five occupants fled from the vehicle. Officers gave chase and apprehended the driver after a short foot pursuit. Another officer responding to the area located the four other occupants close by and detained them without incident.

After further investigation, one adult male and four juveniles were arrested for vehicle theft, conspiracy, and resisting arrest. The adult was booked into the San Jose Main Jail. The juveniles were released to their parents or legal guardian.
