The City is hosting a Veterans Day Recognition event on Monday, Nov. 7 at Mitchell Park Community Center in honor of all Armed Forces veterans and active duty service members. Members of the military, their families, and the public are invited to attend.
The public ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. Veterans support services and career resource tables will be available from 3-4 p.m. and 5:30-6:30 p.m. for veterans seeking employment and educational opportunities, information on canine companions and assistance from the Veterans Administration.
Veterans recruiters from the City of Palo Alto, Facebook, Palantir and LinkedIn will be in attendance at the career tables, and the outreach services table will include representatives from the VA Palo Alto, the Office for Military-Affiliated Communities at Stanford University, the Veterans Resource Center (VCR) at Foothill College, Blue Star Mothers of San Mateo County and the South Bay, and the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce, just to name a few.
Mayor Pat Burt and Council Member Karen Holman will emcee the speaker series that begins at 4 p.m. that includes tributes to local vets, including a WWII POW who calls Palo Alto home. Lieutenant General Rex C. McMillian, Commander of Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North will give the keynote address.
All program events will take place in the El Palo Alto room at Mitchell Park Community Center.
