Signal timing adjustments to help with traffic flow through neighborhoods.
Caltrans is continuing with construction of the Highway 101/San Francisquito Creek Bridge Replacement Project. The City of Palo Alto is aware that the project has caused traffic backups on the freeway and local streets leading to the freeway and has been working with staff from East Palo Alto and Caltrans on ways to lessen the project impacts. We are talking with East Palo Alto and Caltrans staff about ways to adjust the timing of their traffic signals near the Highway 101/University Avenue interchange to improve traffic flow.
Syncing the signals is challenging because they are managed by either Palo Alto, East Palo Alto or Caltrans based on their location within city and jurisdictional boundaries. The map and corresponding logos designates the traffic signals under review and who owns and operates each signal. Green represents Palo Alto, red represents East Palo Alto and blue represents Caltrans.
