The City of Palo Alto is asking community members to weigh in on the future of its parks and open spaces, and has released a survey to gather public input to help prioritize potential improvements. This information will also help to identify the recreation programs, events and park features that are most important to the community. Go here to submit your ideas until Dec. 19. The survey is part of the second phase of gathering public input for the Parks, Trails, Open Space and Recreation Master Plan planning process. The first phase took place over the past six months and included an online map-based survey, community workshops and in-person outreach at parks and farmers markets.
The City is currently in the process of drafting a long-range, 25-year Master Plan, which will chart the future of parks, facilities and recreation programs while maintaining their environmental and recreational integrity.
The last comprehensive city parks and recreational master plan was completed in 1965. There is currently no cohesive plan in place to manage, improve and expand the City's parks and recreational facilities. The updated Master Plan will provide clear guidance and recommendations on how to meet the demands for future recreational, programming, environmental, and maintenance needs, as well as establish priorities for future park renovations and facility improvements.
